Time Travel

Is it really July already? Did we not just celebrate Christmas & New Year's? Time seems to go by faster the older I get, and that is just scary. Where did my last six months go? Feel like I have had a few months stolen from me & I want them back so I can enjoy them.

No longer traveling in style

After watching Betty White on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, I keep thinking about something she said. "Why don't people dress up when they fly anymore?" After weeks of thought, I have come up with an answer for Betty. There are many reasons why people don't dress up to fly anymore. Flying used to be a big event and not many people did it. Most people that did have the money to fly also had money to have nice clothes; keeping the overall wearing working man's only option for travel the train or via automobile. Airlines back then recognized that they were providing a service. You were sitting in comfortable seats, had lots of leg room & were treated like royalty by the 'stewardess' on the flight serving meals & beverages.

Things were a lot different at the airports back then too. You didn't have to get to the airport 2-3 hours ahead of time to just get through a security checkpoint. You didn't have to stand in line for an hour to just check into your flight. Airports also had seats in the gate waiting area for all the passengers to sit in.

Most airlines now days have forgotten what customer service is. They treat they customers as cattle, packing as many on the plane as possible & milking every penny possible out of them. The profit margin matters more then customer satisfaction. Planes are ordered/configured to squeeze as many people in as possible, making it hard for anyone over 5'3" (my height) to sit comfortably. They have also have made the actual seat smaller -so they can fit more in a row. I am not a large person, I would say I have a petite build and I feel cramped in my seat. You also have to pay for food now days, I am sure the day is coming when the non-alcoholic drinks will be charged for too. Speaking of charges - you get charged for checking bags, charged for over-sized bags, charged for heavy bags - one airlines even charges you for carry-on bags. Flight Attendants as they are called now days are also not focused on customer service - most are rude and seem displeased whenever you ask them a question or for any type of service.

These are just a few of the problems with air travel now days, which are just a few reasons why I don't dress up for flying anymore.

Where is the bridge to Maui?

I find it very interesting and slightly frustrating when family members tell us they are going to Maui on vacation & want to meet up while they are there.  Either they don't realize we live on the island of Oahu or they seem to be under some delusion that there is a bridge from Oahu to Maui that we can just drive on to see them.  If there is a bridge, I haven't seen it in the all the years we have lived here.  I don't understand why these people constantly do this, as this is not the first time this has happened while we have lived here.  It is like a big slap in the face.

I know that certain members of our families are unhappy we live over 2500 miles away and are not able to visit them more often.  They seem to not understand that we live this far away because we needed to get away from the drama & stress being caused by certain people.  Moving to Hawaii has been the best thing for us and has helped both of us heal the wounds created by manipulative, backstabbing, angry, abusive, mentally ill people.  The people who caused these wounds (yes, there were many people) are in delusions that they did nothing wrong to us & don't understand why we cut contact with most of them.  One day they will have to come to terms with the fact that their actions have caused us to take certain precautions and actions against them to protect ourselves from further harm.  We have chosen not to be victims anymore, which is the best decision anyone can make in there lives.

We are much happier in Hawaii then we were in California - and that seems to make them even more irritated.  But one thing we have embraced is that we live our lives for us - not them.

Planning for Seattle

We are planning a trip to Seattle to attend Chief Seattle Days this August.  So many things to do, so little time.  Just some of the things I would like to see while there (besides family):

The Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame  (http://www.empsfm.org/)
How can I go to Seattle & not see the original chair used by Captian Kirk?

The Suquamish Museum & Cultural Center (http://www.suquamish.org/Museum.aspx)

The Suquamish Clearwater Casino & Resort (http://www.clearwatercasino.com)

The Space Needle (http://www.spaceneedle.com/)

Questioning me

Where did I go
How did I get here
Why did I get here
How can I find myself again

School Spirit

In all the 3 years I spent at California State University, Sacramento I never heard our school fight song - probably due to not attending any sporting events or being in a sorority.  Recently I found out what it is:

Fight on, Sacramento State;
Fight on to victory!
The Hornet is on the wing;
The foe will know that we can show them
We are meant for fame and glory
All the world will know
The Hornets' nest is best
In the West by test
Sacramento State, let's go!

Expressive, no?  We are the Sac State Hornets - what did I expect. Lame mascot, lame song.

trying to let out the gamer in me

We got an XBox recently & the game Halo: ODST.  I enjoy playing it, even though I am not good at it - but the more I play, the better I am getting.  Finding that deep down, there is an gamer trying to get out.  My inner geek goes deeper than I thought.

Reflectiing

Looking back at 2009 and what I accomplished over the year. My biggest accomplishment was losing 30 pounds by eating healthier & exercising. I feel healthier & happier than I have in years. Woohoo for me. :)

Resolutions for 2010: continue on the path of healthiness & find my true self again.

2010 - the year we make contact

Haven't blogged in quite a while, been doing alot of self reflection. Also don't have a computer at home (my crappy dell up & died after windows did an automatic update and fried the hard drive). Hoping to find some time to blog more this year & express my creative side.
